The pound sterling is outperforming, and the USD broadly stronger despite some talk of additional monetary policy easing from a former Bank of England Board member this morning. Speaking in an interview with Bloomberg TV, former BOE board member David Blanchflower said that both the U.S. and UK central banks will likely return to quantitative easing to stimulate their economies. The comments have failed to have much of an impact on FX, particularly given Blachflower’s reputation for being extremely dovish on monetary policy (favouring slow interest rates to stimulate growth over focusing on inflation).
